Best Practices
Come on teachers.......Let's Talk .👐
How and why is it important to provide best practices for effective writing at the Primary levels?
Best practices for effective writing should establish a positive atmosphere for writing, reading and learning . Students should feel they are apart of a community, supporting each other in developing as writers, readers and thinkers. To help students develop as writers, teachers must take steps to establish and maintain a positive atmosphere and a sense of community.
Best practices include; giving students writing choices. This would allow, for students to take ownership of their learning and produce writing that is more authentic to them.
Best practices allow for more time to write. More time to write means more practice and students are likely to become better writers.
Best practices engage students the opportunity to publish their work in a class newspaper. Where they will develop their writing abilities and interact with each other's writing.
Best practices provides opportunities for students to experience the complete writing process. When students get the opportunity to more from one level to the next in the stages of writing, it will develop a sense of confidence and proud.
Giving students daily practice with useful feed back, will make them know where to improve. Lack of practice can make students to fell that writing is unimportant, unnecessary and boring. Constructive feedback helps students to improve on their weakness and build on their strength.
I love your comment about students publishing their work in newspaper. I think this is a great idea because, seeing one work being publish and read will give students a sense on accomplishment and they will develop a drive to see more of their work publish and read.
ReplyDeleteI too agree with you about publishing students work (in a newspaper). The newspaper level is a step higher than normal, but it is indeed the way we should be going now. In my earlier years of teaching, teachers were encouraged to put the students writing on the classroom walls. Don't know how many teachers do it still, but it really helped to encourage other students, as everyone wanted theirs to go up. Imagine, if their writing is put in a newspaper. Truly would be a good practice in our classrooms.
